In the Girls Talk Math program at UMD, our group studied knot theory. We researched a female mathematician who is well-versed in geometric concepts like these, and we learned about many topics relating to knot theory. Here are some things we learned!
Mathematical models are things that take data and try to make sense of it to sometimes predict what will happen with that data in the future. There are many different types of models used in math modeling as different situations call for different models.
We often want to talk to our friends without anyone knowing the contents of the message. For that, a code would be needed which in turn requires cryptography. Cryptography is the science of encrypting messages and decoding them.
Graph Theory is the exploration of numerical structures that describe connections between objects. Graphs are made up of dots and lines that connect the dots. Each dot represents something, and the lines show how these things are related.
